Resources & Information

We have set aside this page to answer questions, provide more information on our church, and list the contact details for First Presbyterian Church of Sharon staff members. If you have other questions, don't hesitate to contact us

Choir & Music

First Presbyterian has a strong heritage of providing great worship music and opportunities for you to share your musical gifts. A gifted choir performs on Sundays from September through June, and is always open to new members who love to sing. Our current mix of old standards, revival hymns, and modern Christian music is referred to as New Traditional. If you're curious, the large exposed-pipe organ was created by reknown maker Cassavant Freres, of Quebec, Canada in 1975.

Sunday school?

First Presbyterian Church has an active children and families program, but we do not run a conventional Sunday school on Sunday mornings. If you're seeking a way to help your children or teens learn, see, and experience the reality of Faith and Christ's love, we have a whole list of ways for them, and you, to get involved. Contact Debra Derrenbacher for details and a current schedule of activities!

Denominational Affiliation

First Presbyterian Church is a member of the Presbyterian Church, USA, which is organized into 172 presbyteries. FPC's presbytery is called Shenango Presbytery. It meets regularly throughout the year and does much of its work through committees, along with Presbytery staff support.

There are about 42 congregations in our Shenango Presbytery, which includes Lawrence and Mercer County in Northwestern Pennsylvania. Presbytery meetings are conducted by an elected moderator, who facilitates a gathering of Teaching and Ruling elder representatives from all the churches in the presbytery. The Synod is the next-level governing body in the PC(USA). Synods are made up of multiple presbyteries and conduct business in the same way as a presbytery, yet have fewer functions.

Composed entirely of elected representatives, the highest governing body in the PC(USA) is the General Assembly which meets every two years. The General Assembly administrative offices are located in Louisville, Kentucky. The General Assembly sets policies, formulates statements of faith, publishes curricula and worship resources, helps start new churches, and coordinates the global mission of the denomination.
